RePlanet roots for renewable energy to save African forests

News

In a new campaign called Switch on Africa’, we are reaching out to individuals, communities, governments, and multinational development banks, urging everyone to join the movement for sustainable energy. By increasing investment in solar, wind, geothermal, hydro and nuclear energy; we can light up the continent, save our forests, restore ecosystems, fuel prosperity, and contribute to cooling our planet.

CATALYZE INVESTMENT
The ‘Switch on Africa’ campaign is aimed at addressing the energy poverty on the continent, which has left more than 640 million people of the 1.4 billion on the continent without access to reliable electricity. We can achieve this by catalyzing investment in renewable energy, improving access to the grid, cutting the cost of power, and protecting African forests by stopping the reliance on firewood and charcoal for cooking fuel.

According to WePlanet Africa Director Patricia Nanteza, the ‘Switch on Africa’ campaign is a call to action for individuals, communities, governments, businesses, and investors to help boost household energy consumption, accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy, promote sustainable development and protect the environment.
