
In a move to bolster its global environmental network, WePlanet announced the addition of Zimbabwe and Nigeria during its annual general meeting, held online on March 29, 2025. The Secretary-General, Karolina Lisslo, warmly welcomed the two new African nations, bringing the total number of African member countries to four. The expansion signifies WePlanet’s growing focus on addressing environmental challenges within the African continent. Umar Farouk Ahmad, a nuclear physicist, will take the lead in Nigeria, driving environmental initiatives and fostering collaboration, while Ngaakudzwe Tinotenda Chifamba, a geodata analyst and nuclear science communication enthusiast, will spearhead efforts in Zimbabwe. The online format of the AGM facilitated participation from a diverse global audience.
