Milestone for WePlanet Africa

Newsletter

We are proud to share that WePlanet Africa is now officially registered as an NGO in Kenya.

This milestone strengthens our ability to:

  • Expand our Just Stop Cooking campaign, accelerating Africa’s transition from biomass fuels to clean cooking.
  • Advance nuclear energy education and stakeholder engagement, ensuring Africa’s energy future is safe, sustainable, and equitable.
  • Deepen our work on climate, energy access, and innovation across the continent.

They are joined by Nema Vice Chair Ms Sophie Takaria Matura, Weplanet Secretary General Karolina Lisslö Gylfe, and Weplanet Kenya Chairman, Prof. Charles Ngome, during the awards ceremony in Nairobi.

Becoming a legally recognized NGO in Kenya provides us with a platform to engage more effectively with governments, development partners, and communities — and to scale the impact of the work we’ve already begun.

This is not just about registration. It’s about unlocking Africa’s potential through clean, reliable energy and science-driven solutions.

Peter Gichuki from Weplanet Kenya delivers a letter to the World Bank offices in Nairobi Upperhill, urging the multinational institution to rethink it’s scale and pace of investment in clean energy access in Africa.

We invite partners, funders, and allies to join us. Together, we can build a future where African people and nature thrive side by side.

Special thanks to our board chairperson, Prof. Charles Ngome, for the unrelenting support.
