🌍🔆 Happy World Nuclear Energy Day

Blog

Today, December 2, we join the rest of the world to celebrate a technology that can transform Africa’s energy future. With 40% of the African population currently living without access to electricity (IEA, 2024) and demand for electricity expected to triple by 2050, we cannot afford slow, unreliable, or polluting solutions.

Nuclear energy offers 24/7, carbon-free power with one of the lowest lifecycle emissions of any energy source (UN IPCC). Nuclear energy delivers the highest reliability of any power source, operating at full capacity over 92% of the time – far more than wind (35%) or solar (25%).

Countries like Egypt, Kenya, Ghana, and Uganda are already taking bold steps toward nuclear readiness, recognising its role in powering industries, health systems, and modern cities.

At WePlanet Africa, we advocate for safe, affordable, people-centred nuclear deployment that creates jobs, strengthens energy security, and drives climate resilience.

Happy World Nuclear Energy Day!
